A podcast I love listening to for inspiration and motivation is Elise Gets Crafty, a podcast that talks about creative small business. On a recent episode Elise (the host) had Ali Edwards on to talk about One Little Word. Between her blog and podcast, for the last several years running Elise has talked about picking a guiding word for the year. The words are generally something that embody what that person wants to work on in the year to come, and can serve as a replacement for our often un-resolved new year resolutions. In short, Ali sums it up by saying:
“what do you want to have happen in the next year… what do you want to work on… and then distilling that down to one word that you can focus on.”
Well this year, with all the changes going on in our household, I felt motivated to finally take part in One Little Word. I’ve made a point not to set any resolutions this year since I figured having a baby is a pretty lofty goal in itself, but I’m going to see gobs of changes leading up to the little jellybean’s arrival (more on those other changes HERE) and this will be a nice reminder to step back and remember the big picture.
So after spending the last two weeks trying to decide what my word should be, I finally decided on…
On an obvious level, grow will reflect our growing family (and, ahem, my growing belly), my career growth, the ever-growing value we’re putting into our home via renovations… even little things like the growth of our vegetable garden (I have spring on the mind, bear with me). But in adding grow to my daily mantra, I can’t wait to see how else this word will play a role in the year ahead.
Do you have a guiding word? If you were to join in on One Little Word, what would yours be?
