I can hardly believe it. Both Brandon and I predicted our baby to be a girl (I’ve been saying “she” since we found out!), yet when the ultrasound technician pointed to our bebe’s little butt on the screen and the absence of certain boy parts, I was totally surprised. I’m still surprised! Even though my gut feeling was that we were having a girl, I think I had convinced myself that we’d have a boy since Brandon’s paternal side are predominantly boys (fun fact: that’s the only genetic line that matters in deciding if it’s a boy or girl). So lesson learned… gotta trust that very new-to-me momma instinct!
We found out yesterday during our 20 week ultrasound (20 weeks, I’m officially over halfway!) and yes, baby appears to be happy and healthy. After the ultrasound, I zipped over to a party shop in Iowa City where some friendly folks helped me build a baby sex reveal balloon. Brandon knew I was getting this balloon –we had talked about how we wanted to tell our out-of-town friends and family– but I don’t think he expected the balloon I brought home to be three feet in diameter… it was large. I get seriously excited about helium balloons, so I was giddy over the thing. We set up our tripod and recorded the reveal, which is now being sent around to friends and family. It’s been a while since I did a video and I was really rushed to get this edited and live on youtube since our families were going nuts waiting for the news, but this reminded me how fun it is to throw a video together every now and then!
If you’re interested in watching our reveal via the video, here it is!
