Aside from this pregnancy making me totally exhausted and bee-lining for comfy sweats and a soft blanket on the couch by 5pm, life lately has felt like a total blur. I’ll have one day that feels mind-numbingly long and I can’t fathom how I’ll make it through the day let alone to the end of the week, followed by a series of days that actually turn out to be a week or two and then… holy heck how am I already halfway through this pregnancy?! I’m beyond excited to meet our baby but also nervous over whether or not we’ll have everything ready in time. This cocktail of feelings is certainly giving my pregnancy emotions a good run.
So the big theme lately has been to savor these quiet days. Days where it’s just Brandon and I… and our furry creatures.
▲ Just like last year, we haven’t had nearly enough snow for Koda’s liking. But when we do get snow, we’re pretty good at making the most of it.
▲ A couple weeks ago the Chicago Joffrey Ballet was in town and we had tickets to see the Nutcracker, so we placed dinner reservations at a swanky Italian restaurant and made a date night of it. If you ever have a chance to see the Chicago Ballet, you must go. It was incredible and I can’t wait for our next weekend trip to Chicago so I can try and catch another performance.
▲ We’ve lived in this house for just over six months, yet it wasn’t until this past month that we finally put real furniture in the family room! It’s amazing how much nicer it is to have this extra space for visiting with guests or just hunkering down with a book. We custom ordered our new couch and had to wait two months for that, followed by a month long wait for our new rug (which ended up being the wrong one so we had to wait another week to sort that out). There’s still decorating to polish off, windows to replace, a hearth to re-tile, fireplace doors to replace, and a wall of built-ins to install… but for the current moment, I’m calling it complete.
▲ We’ve also managed to finally get the office more functional (something Lila’s pretty stoked about since that’s where she hangs out all day). We’ve installed new built-in standing desks (I’ll show and tell more about that another day), new window blinds, conquered some pretty serious organization, and… finally put decorations on (some of) the walls! I can’t believe how long it has taken me to finally hang things on the walls here. Perhaps that’s a side-effect of repairing and painting every square inch of wall in this house – I can’t bring myself to hang anything until I’m certain it’s the exact right spot.
▲ And because this sums up life around here pretty darn well: us on new year’s eve. With no makeup on and clad in bulky pajama clothes, we watched The Bourne Supremacy, I slept through The Bourne Supremacy, caught the Chicago countdown on a youtube live stream, toasted with jars of juice, and went to bed ten minutes later. Even better yet is that I’m not making any resolutions for 2017, because my only goal is to have a baby and then to figure out how to operate said baby (#goals). So when the classiest thing about your new year’s eve is the fact that you’re toasting sparkling pear juice out of mason jars, you know you’re in for a wild year ahead.
Are you tackling any home projects or ambitious new year resolutions?
