We got back from Washington DC a week ago and I’ve finally managed to sort through the very very large file of photos we took out there. Unfortunately, I completely spaced out and forgot the camera on my desk so was stuck with my three year old cell phone camera the entire time. At least I was able to travel lighter this way though I guess. #silverlining?
Anyway, here are some photos from the trip:
▲ Okay so I’m starting this post out with a low-quality photo… but how can I not with this squishy cat face? Lila does this nearly every time I get a travel bag out. Maybe it’s the “cats love boxes” theory (I’ll never get sick of watching Maru).
▲ Our hotel, The George, was pretty rad and I’m slightly obsessed with their horse lamp.
▲ We stumbled across A Baked Joint, which served up some of my favorite espresso and chai drinks of the trip. And that mango almond croissant? Mmhmm.
▲ This little garden is just off the National Mall, near the Smithsonian Institution (ie. “the castle”). We stumbled across it while out for a run one of our first evenings in DC.
▲ I really loved the National Museum of American History. We explored it from the third floor down and I’m so glad we did, because on the third floor you can walk chronologically through the history of America’s wars – it was such a unique way to explore our nation’s history, and the perfect introduction to our week in Washington.
By the way, this is a picture of the 240 year old gunboat, Philadelphia. It sank to the bottom of Lake Champlain in 1776 and the lake’s cold water preserved it all the way until it was recovered in 1935. I was really fascinated by the story of it’s crew and battle, so HERE‘s a link
I’ll be back with part two tomorrow and… cherry blossoms!
What’s your favorite museum in Washington DC? Do you have a go-to hotel or cafe?
(I’d love to know – Washington, DC really clicked with us and I have a feeling we’ll be making more regular trips that way!)
