Although I’m never one for cliche teddy bears and overpriced roses, I’ll of course take a romantic date night anytime! I used to leave the date planning entirely up to Brandon but two years ago I told him I wanted to plan our valentine’s date night and I had almost as much fun planning and surprising him, as I did on the actual date! Here are a few of my go-to and favorite date night ideas:
► for the young at heart
When is the last time you went to an ice rink or roller den? Ice skating is so classical and whimsical – plus it gives you a reason to go get hot chocolates afterwards to warm up! Roller skating is one of those blast from the past date ideas that can make you feel like kids, show off some spontaneity, and even remind you of your early dating days.
►for the do-it-yourselfers
Scour pinterest for a small diy project you both want to try. Round up any supplies you’ll need in advance and then kick the night off with breakfast for dinner: waffles with sprinkles, whipped cream, strawberries… make it the brinner all breakfasts are jealous of and keep the festivities rolling as you tackle your diy project together. Who knows, the result might be something you’ll both treasure for years to come. Or it could be a complete train wreck and something you look back at and laugh about.
► for the snugglers
To be honest, nights in are quite possibly some of my favorite date nights! Order sushi takeout or a pizza delivery and pick out a fun movie or cartoon. Then pull all the cushions off the couch and make a pillow fort on the floor where the two of you can snuggle close while sharing a giant bowl of popcorn and a pint of ice cream.
► for the glamorous
Who doesn’t love a night out on the town?! Get your reservation into that flashy restaurant you’ve been dying to try and find a nearby park for a romantic after-dinner stroll. End the night back home with a couple glasses of wine and card games.
► for the curious
Look to the local kitchen shops and dance studios! Sign up for a cooking class and learn how to make sushi or decorate a cake, or take ballroom dance lessons together and go to a wine bar afterwards to rest your sore feet and keep the classy night going.
What are you doing this Valentine’s weekend? Are you in charge of the planning?
